May 2019 - Member Spotlight

Jake Sciaudone

How long have you been a member of Friends of Riley?

I joined FOR in November 2017 after an awesome meeting with Alex Neff.

Why did you join Friends of Riley?

I wanted to find a group of young professionals that were organized, passionate, fun to be around, and willing to come together for an awesome cause. After meeting with Alex and being introduced to other FOR members over the first few months, I knew that FOR was the organization that I not only wanted to be a part of, but was an organization that I wanted to help grow and flourish. The hard work and dedication that everyone brings to every single meeting and event truly is amazing.

What is your position and what committee do you serve on?

I am the VP of Finance and Sponsorship. Currently, I am the only person involved in finance, but we have started a sponsorship committee that has a lot of great ideas to come.

What is your current occupation?

I am a CPA at Katz, Sapper & Miller. We are tied as the largest CPA firm in Indianapolis, and work almost exclusively with private businesses. I work in our Real Estate Tax Group, where I specialize in real estate, high net worth individuals, and cost segregation studies.

What do you love most about the industry you work in?

I love how each and every client is complex and different. Some clients worry about cash flow, others want to grow their businesses into new states, and some are starting to retire and transition out of their business. No matter the client, everyone has a different situation that we have to take into consideration when helping them.

Who inspires you?

My grandfather, Jack Sciaudone, has always been my inspiration. From starting as a factory worker for Tulox Plastics at 17 years old, marrying the love of his life in 1965, becoming VP of Tulox at 35 to buying the company at 40. He then sold the company in 2015, so that he could retire while he's healthy and can play plenty of golf. He has always been my idol. Even though he was the owner of business for nearly three decades, he always put his family first.

What’s a fun fact about you?

My last name has all five vowels in it! Don’t come at me with “sometimes Y”…

When you’re not working, where in Indianapolis do you like to spend your time?

My wife, Rachel Sciaudone, and I have two giant dogs; a 120lb lab/mastiff mix named Mona and a 105lb Great Pyrenees name Sol. When it is nice out, we are always outside with them. Our favorite places to take them are Big Lug, Holiday Park, and Metazoa.
